Wolfowitz Does Not Represent My People
Paul Wolfowitz was quoted in Washington Post's Reliable Source as saying, "Cheney can't be a neocon. He isn't Jewish." Such statements do so much damage to my people, and he doesn't speak for us. The Jewish community is not behind the neocons like Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz - we want nothing to do with them. Everytime some loud-mouthed idiot like Wolfowitz proclaims somehow that Jews side with him, he does major damage to our credibility in the United States, and Israel's credibility worldwide. I'm sick and tired of these morons inciting new forms on anti-semitism because of their desire to justify their hawkishness by claiming it helps the Jews. With "friends" like these guys, who needs enemies?
Thanks to Wonkette for the heads up on this quote.

I never thought I'd find myself in the position of leaping to Paul Wolfowitz's defense, but...
Although the word "neocon" is usually used with absolutely no malicious subtext, it is at least sometimes used by anti-Semites as a code phrase for "those Jews who are pulling the strings behind the scenes." In saying "He can't be a neocon--he's not Jewish," Wolfowitz might have been understanding the word in that sense. It's hard to know without seeing the original article.
Admittedly, Wolfowitz might also be delibrately misunderstanding the use of "Neocon" in order ot imply that ANYBODY who criticizes the Neo-Conservative philosophy must be an anti-Semite, which is just as offensive as saying "We Neo-Conservatives speak on behalf of the Jews." But I hate criticizing Wolfowitz on the basis of a single quote lifted out of context--especially when there's so much more substantive stuff to criticize him for.
