Tom Delay, My Friend Caroline
Mr. Delay gets indicted. Good. Mr. Delay won't go down without a fight. Better. Mr. Delay is going to drag down the entire Republican Party with him. Priceless.
The more this jackass squirms, the more it's on the news - and the more that people start to wake up and smell the corruption. Here's hoping he goes to Federal "Pound Me in the Ass*" Prison.
* - I'm quoting Office Space.
----------------------------
I ran into one of my high school friends on the bus this morning. Caroline also went to college in Orlando, though we rarely hung out while she was down there (I only saw her freshman year). We caught up on the bus ride in. And oh what a small world it is.
Last year I ran a campaign in the Florida's 8th Congressional District. And low & behold, Caroline also works for someone who ran for congress in the 8th congressional district. Yes - my friend Caroline works for our favorite Wife-Cheating Family Values Hypocrite - Ric Keller. I do find some amusement in this. Actually I find lots of amusement in this. But I also have to remind myself that occasionally I am friends with someone on the other side. Just occasionally though.

Around the Horn Trivia,Why I Didn't Protest, Jim Moran, Flying Spaghetti Monster and the T-Shirt Decisions
4 games in a week - good. Being the Modell's Around the Horn Trivia Contestant on Sunday afternoon - awesome.
The only drawback - my fantasy about running off with this NatPack cutie were dashed. C'est la vie - she is married. Fortunately, I found this out before I started hitting on her.

I saw her walking by as I procured beer for myself and my friend/coworker Leah who was kind enough to invite me to the game. Upon my image gracing the screen at RFK, they proceeded to ask me the trivia questions. I got the first 3 right - only to be baffled by the total number of runs the Nationals have scored in one inning this year.

My choices were 5, 7, & 9. My instinct told me 5. But there was a guy in view who was practically running up to the camera to shout "9!!!". I went with him since he seemed to know what he was talking about. The answer was 7.
As I was in the middle of trivia, my phone rang. I didn't answer it while it was going on. My friend Erika (with whom I had gone to the game earlier in the week) called - she was watching me on the screen. Her voicemail was "7 you idiot!" My boss Louis also called me. He called right after the trivia ended - "9??? It was 7 you moron!" I also got a call from my folks a few hours later saying that one of the family friends was also at the game, and he saw me too.
I will also point out that half the staff of my company dropped in on me Monday morning and just said "7."
This was after going to the game in the Covington seats the previous night, and in a client's seats the night before.

----------------------------
There were large anti-war protests in the District this weekend. As long as these are being arranged by Anti-Semitic groups such as ANSWER, I will have no part in it. I oppose the war as much as many of the other groups do, but that does not mean that these groups have the right to expand the meaning of these protests to other causes. I am tired of seeing these groups who claim to speak for those of us on the left bash Israel, and try to turn legitimate causes into kitchen sink events. As long as these groups are running these things, I will have nothing to do with it.
----------------------------
Jim Moran attended a house party one of my family friend's threw on Wednesday night. It was your traditional liberal political house party, except for the fact there was an actual elected official present. This was definitely Moran doing damage control for the Iraq-War/Jewish Community flap last year. But nonetheless it was nice to actually meet the man - and he definitely has my vote in any primary (Any Democrat will have my vote in the General).
I was also amused by some of my parents friends comments of "It's so nice to see you getting involved in politics." What exactly have I been doing for the last year and a half?
One older gentleman grabbed my arm and asked, "What can we do to get young people involved? Why won't they do something instead of just becoming complacent with their job?" I didn't want to respond by saying "Well you can start by asking them instead of attacking their motives for not being involved." Instead I responded, "Well - I do this for a living so I'm the wrong person to ask. If I knew I'd have a lot more money."
----------------------------
I continue to be enthralled with his noodleliness. I have been touched by his noodley appendage. Which shirt shall I buy?
Also - I have ordered a new t-shirt for my collection, from Diesel Sweeties.
Bacon is a Vegetable.
I also threw in 2 of this bumper sticker:

One for the car, one for the laptop.

The Good Seats
I've spent most of the year enjoying the Nationals from the Upper Deck. I've sat amongst the diehard baseball fans who have the common sense not to spend their hard earned dollar on the law firm lobbyist seats. Tonight I got to sit in the law firm/lobbyist seat. Alright - those are pretty good seats.
Last night I took a free ticket from my friend Erika and we sat in the mezzanine.

Well it was cool to see Barry Bonds hit a homerun, the view doesn't quite compare to...oh...I don't know...

Seeing Mr. Player of the Game Himself Rick Short up close & all personal.

Seeing Dutch take a swing is pretty sweet too.
And of course -

The Manishewitz Sweetness that is Victory.
I got phonecalls from both my buddy Matt with whom I regularly attend games & from my boss Louis - asking me to procure them free Hot Dogs. Yes, they were free - but nothing was going to make me leave my seat.
I attended these games with my Sister's Father-In-Law (alright, so he's a bigtime Republican who referred to this blog as "one of those places that accuse Bush of creating hurricanes" which I denied (I will however blame the failing levees on him...)) It did go to show that here in Washington, one thing we can all agree on is the Nationals.

John Roberts
I'm very happy to see that many on the right are PISSED about John Roberts. This is a very good sign. If they're angry, you know that something is going right. It's also obvious that the next appointee is going to be a real winger nut-job. Therefore, this is what I propose.
Confirm Roberts. He's better than Reinquist, and no more conservative. Then, when Bush puts up a psycho - point out that we confirmed Roberts and that we're willing to work with Bush. That destroys any credibility that groups like Club for Growth would have in saying "It doesn't matter who Bush puts up, the Dems will block 'em!" We can make hay out of this, and keep the Supreme Court safe - let's do it.

New Box Arrival
There's something about the city of Philadelphia. The last time I went to Philly I got a new computer...because my computer got stolen. I'm going to Philly tomorrow. I just got a new computer. This time, however - I'm taking no chances. This bad boy is getting lanyarded (if that is a word) to my desk.
Mwah ha ha, this thing rocks.

New Laptop, Out of the Playoffs, Old Friends
I just spent $1400 in one go. I'm not a person who's used to doing that. It feels...well weird. I didn't spend that much when I bought my sweet Marshall half-stack (which is currently sitting in my closet, but I'll get to that later...). Anwyays - New Laptop, 1 GB of additional RAM, and Microsoft Office (Student & Teacher since I was once a lab instructor, and I will soon be a student again...)
The goals of this computer: 1. Not overheating regularly, like my current box. 2. Being significantly faster than my current machine. 3. Have enough video memory to run Civilization 4. Require less peripherals to do what I want to do (Current: wireless card, external harddrive for mp3s, etc...)
----------------------------
And with the crush of an 0-2 Chad Cordero fastball, the Nats playoff hopes died today. The Nats have truly claimed a piece of the soul of the Red Sox - getting so very close, and then snapping defeat from the jaws of victory. But yet - I like this year's Washington team much better than last years. :) But all we need are servicable 4 & 5 starters, and one big bat (Nomar - I'm looking at you...) and we'll be in great shape next year.
----------------------------
I went out for a few drinks with my friends Wayne & Lizanna last night. They came up from Orlando. It was wonderful to see them (they've been friends for a very, very long time). An amusing story however. So last week on Wednesday, coming back on the Metro from the ballgame, there was a fairly cute girl sitting across from me who kept looking over. Thinking this might be another "Missed Metro Girl" opportunity, I kind of smiled at her - but I couldn't get a good read this time. We both got off at East Falls, but she made her way away, and that was that. We never said anything to each other. On Saturday at the hangout, Wayne & Lizanna friend Kevin was there with his wife Jeanne. Jeanne looked me and said, "It was you on the Metro!" I was taken aback - what did she mean. "I wasn't sure if that was you or not so I didn't want to say anything - but that was you on the Metro!" Glad I didn't hit on her.

This Seems Familar..., .500, New Orleans
I met a girl on Craigslist. We had immediate personality clickage. I met her in person for a date. She's very similar to my ex. She was very nice, and geeky but she was definitely not what I'm looking for right now. Way too much like my ex - like the things that drove me crazy about my ex, anyways. Oh well. Add in my stomach once again continuing it's further march up my esophagus in an attempt to throttle my brain into submission, and you've pretty much summed up my night.
----------------------------
The Nats are playing terribly, even though we won tonight. Of course - I wasn't there tonight to see them mount a kick-ass comeback (I missed the 2 best games this year, apparently). But the reality that we need to accept is that they're not going to the playoffs this year. But what a year it has been - this has been the greatest baseball year of my life. I will continue to go to games until the season is over, regardless of how they're doing (if they were in last place and 20 games out of 1st, I'd still be there). If ticket prices go up (which I'm sure they will), I'm doubtful I'll get to go as much next year. And I fear my withdrawal. What will I do without Baseball? I'm thinking Basketball may be the next sporting event I try to frequent regularly...
----------------------------
Each and every day I get more and more depressed seeing the images from New Orleans. And each day, I grow angrier and angrier at how this administration has botched this whole thing. Why wasn't the Superdome better supplied before the storm? Why wasn't the National Guard sitting a few hours away, ready to swoop in as soon as the storm passed? Why wasn't food being dropped to survivors for days afterwards? Why is that idiot still in charge of FEMA? And why did that SOB in the White House refuse to stop trying to sell his plan to destroy Social Security while a city was being destroyed and people were dying?
There will be hell to pay for the failures in the aftermath. There should be hell to pay for the negligence prior to the destruction. But first, let's help those we can still help.

Katrina, Missed Connections, Office Move
As the extent of the destruction and the human cost becomes clear, a sobering picture is being painted. I gave some money to the Humane Society's Disaster Relief Fund today (and NGP is matching all employee contributions). There are many worthy causes that deserve some support through these events.
30% of the Louisiana National Guard are in Iraq? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a National Guard? We need these people here and Shrub has them off fighting a bullshit war we can't win. Brilliant.
----------------------------
For all my love of being single, I'm surprisingly terrible about talking to women. I get...shy. Tonight, that was perfectly emphasized. I got on the train at McPherson. I immediately noticed a REALLY good looking girl sitting across from me. She had gorgeous dark brown hair, and gorgeous dark brown eyes. Our eyes kept meeting as one would sneak a look at the other when we though the other wasn't looking. When she got off at Clarendon, she smiled and said "Have a nice night". I was trying to figure out a way to give her my number - but I froze! I didn't know what to do! Dammit! So I took out a "Missed Connection" on Craigslist, but still. I wouldn't need to if I had a little more impulsiveness.
----------------------------
So the desk assembly party was this evening. I didn't quite finish, and there are a few places I probably could've done better. Here's hoping the damn thing doesn't collapse in on itself.

The new office is sweet, however. And we have a great view. Mwah ha ha. And there's a Quiznos less than a block away. And Starbucks on the way in!! Hooray!
