The Washington Fogument, Punditry, There are Worse Problems to Have, Music of the Moment

Let's start this wildly disjointed blog post with a picture of the Washington Monument from Thursday.

----------------------------

So the other week, the night of Ariel Sharon's stroke, I was walking down 19th Street towards the Brickskeller with my good friend VirginiaBelle (at DailyKos)

As we walked, we were stopped by none other than Elliot Francis from Channel 7. He asked if I was familar with the Ariel Sharon situation, I said I was. He asked for my thoughts. I gave a 3 minute dissertation about Israeli politics - discussing the dynamics between Likud, Labor, and the new Kadima party. I talked about Sharon, Netanyahu, Barak, Rabin, and the direction of the Peace Process.

I even talked about Olmert. Except my information about Olmert was wrong....err rather is now wrong, but used to be right.

You see - I remembered Olmert as the crazy Likudnik who often sided with Netanyahu and had no interest in peace. What I did not know was how much he has moderated since then.

You can guess which clip they used on the news...

I also need to practice my not-looking-at-the-camera technique. It was just so bright - so my eyes kept dashing over. Nay...shifted over. Yes - I was the guy on TV with the shifty eyes.

The clip aired after the Rose Bowl. I didn't think anyone would be up to watch it. Right after it aired, I immediately got pelted with text messages.

----------------------------

One of my friends gave me a good piece of advice - there is nothing worse than two first dates that both go right.

I have that problem. No, I'm not doing details.

----------------------------

I've had a recent influx of tunes. As I resync my iPod I figure it's a good time to mention who my latest choices are...

The Subways - Young for Eternity

Their album has been out since July in the UK, but it doesn't come out stateside until Valentine's Day. It's a solid piece of rock & roll from beginning to end, with the highlight of the album definitely being "With You". These guys are going to a-splode White Stripes style.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Alright, I know everyone and their mother (at least within the "hipster" community) has gotten on board with these guys. Some have proclaimed them the saviours of rock & roll. I think they just have a damn good album. The last three songs make this one of the best closing records in years, although it ends with an abrupt cut-off. Main complaint - it's too short. Not a bad complaint to have.

And they'e coming to the 9:30 Club in March. Already got my tickets (band-site presale).

Broken Social Scene

Interesting, artsy. Many guests. Definitely checkout Fire Eye'd Boy & Hotel. It just plain rocks.

And thus concludes the terse mini-music issue.
