Senseless

I never met Alan Sennitt. And yet the more that I learn about this man, the more his loss is reinforced. Alan was a Jewish activist from London who came here to DC to learn about campaign finance and work for Mark Warner. When I opened the front page of the Post during my regular commute on Monday morning, I read about his murder. The sheer brutality of the crime immediately jumped out at me. Then I read the bio - British Jewish activist who came over to learn about political finance, and work for Mark Warner. I was sick to my stomach all day on Monday - this shook me up more than the murder outside my apartment 2 weeks ago. It was only today that I realized that he was actually already working at Warner's campaign office. I was punched in the gut again. I e-mailed one of my friends over at the campaign, she said everyone was "in shock". Later in the day I talked to another Warner staff in the course of my regular workday - we talked more about Alan than work. Senseless is the only way to describe it. Just senseless.

Politics is a small business. There is no doubt in my mind that had he not been killed in cold blood, I would've crossed paths with Alan. I know that I have been cheated because I will never have the opportunity to meet him. One only has to look at the webpage his family has setup in his memory to see what kind of person he was. A smile like that cannot be faked. While a picture cannot be the only source for a character judgment, it is very easy to see that Alan Sennitt was the kind of person anyone who like to know.

There is no reason this man should have been taken from us. The world is a poorer place as a result.

Senseless.
