Additional Proof That Republicans Don't Know How to Be Funny

A few months ago I remember hearing about Fox putting together a response to The Daily Show. Trying to "tap" into a youth market that only knows Fox for The Simpsons or Family Guy.

So they copied the Daily Show. Like a Xerox copies a Monet. They got the shots right, the composition and angles right, the delivery right. But they forgot one thing.

THEY FORGOT THE FUNNY!

Republicans don't understand satire. A fart joke about of Barack Obama is not satire, nor is it particularly funny. A fart joke about Charles Watson-Wentworth could be funny.

Additionally, the race baiting in the piece linked above is despicable.

Part of their problem is their target audience. TDS and Colbert work because their target audience has a chance of getting the joke I made above. Fox's audience probably finds Epic Movie and The War at Home to be the pinnacles of modern American humor. What makes Stewart and Colbert work is subtleness. A parody news show devoid of subtleness or satire doesn't have anything left.

Wow... that's just... wow. It's so unsubtle, forced, and just plain BAD that it might even be funny again. It is the Ed Wood of comedy news programs.

P.S. Was that canned laughter I heard? Who wants to bet that either a) it's pre-recorded or b) there's a "Laughter" light that goes on at each punchline, accompanied by armed guards fondling their uzis for the that extra "punch".
