A Shout Out for a Good Band

Every once in a while I get this bug up my ass where I want to play in a band again. Invariably, it always ends up with me losing interest or being ridiculously busy with work or something like that. Last year I went on an audition with a band called City-State that contacted me off a guitarist available ad I posted on Craigslist. I checked out their live set at Galaxy Hut, and they were very very good. I spent 2 weeks practicing for my audition, working nightly on the material they sent - it was the most dedication I'd put into an audition...um, ever. The songs were very well crafted, and the guitarist I was auditioning to replace (who was moving) has a very unique style. Well, the audition went alright - but I didn't land the gig. This was probably the first time that I was really disappointed in not ending up with a band I auditioned for.

Well their new album is being released very soon. You can hear two of the tracks here on their myspace page. They have a CD Release party coming up at the Black Cat. Go! I wish I could - but I must be here in Richmond. Doh.

You should have auditioned for the part of "drummer". All you have to do is sort of be near the beat and know where to buy weed.
